Essential Oils as A Healing Modality in Your Business
5 minute read
Essential oils are just that — essential. According to etymology essential oils are an ingredient that gives something its character. Character is the qualities that define a person or thing and distinguish it from another.
And distinguishing means to differentiate the two. So, how can this be applied to healing the body? Well, essential oils can differentiate between what makes you feel unhealthy and healthy. For example, if you have a micro virus in your cells an essential oil will detect it and over time get rid of it.
That’s amazing!
Ooh here’s another example…let’s say you’re feeling down and not in a good mood…there are essential oils that contain monoterpenes known to boost your mood. They contain adaptogen properties that bring you into balance.
The best part about them is they’re not limited to only getting rid of viruses and balancing mood. You can use them for anything and everything, which is excellent if you are a holistic doctor, functional diagnostic, holistic health coach, etc.
How to Use Them in Your Holistic Health Business
Essential oils have been around since the beginning of time, even before modern medicine. Doctors who prescribe medications take a piece of the plant aka essential oil and adulterate it with synthetic materials. What do you get? Side effects and no solutions.
Essential oils in their whole, unfragmented states were used as ointments for people who had tuberculosis, and more. There is a scripture in the Bible that talks about the balm in Gilead.
I chuckle a bit when I hear people thinking that balm means bomb. They sound similar but aren’t the same at all. In fact, balm refers to essential oils. They were known to soothe not only physical pain, but emotional pain, and mental pain as well.
When people anointed their head in the Bible they used essential oils, such as Frankincense, Myrrh, and Sandalwood — so they have a spiritual component as well.
And they can serve you well in your holistic health business because they can help your clients heal on a mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual level.
Now, many naturopaths and holistic doctors use herbs and tinctures to help with detoxing the liver, draining the lymph, cleansing the blood, and that’s great.
But the wonderful thing about essential oils is that they’re 50-70 times more powerful than herbs.
It takes about 20-25 lbs. of rose petals to produce one 5 ml. bottle of Rose. This makes them more potent and because of this the body heals quicker.
The three ways to use them are:
1. Topically – putting drops of oil on the skin so it seeps into the bloodstream. Some oils need a carrier oil.
2. Aromatically – diffusing the oil so they can inhale them. The molecules of EOs may send a signal to the olfactory system and the respiratory system. This creates a systemic healing effect on the body
3. Ingest – your clients can ingest some oils that will help with their ailments.
Creating An Essential Oil Protocol
When working with your clients it is imperative that you provide them with a holistic health protocol that they can implement on their journey to wellness. Sure, you may give dietary and supplement recommendations, but adding essential oils can be the positive twist that a client needs.
For example, when I went on a Raw Food Retreat there was a woman named Sandra from Peru. She ate all the foods that were required for detox, but her blood sugar was out of whack and her levels were all over the place.
She shared this with me, and I intuitively came up with an essential oil protocol for her that “saved” her. You don’t have to be a psychic medium with robust intuition to your clients. What I am saying is sometimes clients will come to you and do everything you ask, but some need an extra oomph…and essential oils may give them the solutions that their body is looking for.
So, when you’re creating a protocol, you want to add these in. Be sure to include the dosage amounts with very clear instructions on exactly how to use them. They can never overdose on these and there are no side effects.
All essential oil brands are not safe. The safest essential oils I know of are from doTERRA.
According to Dr. David K. Hill, the Chief Medical Officer at doTERRA, there is no protein in essential oils. Usually when there are protein people tend to have allergic reactions. However, doTERRA brand doesn’t contain protein.
You can also include that in your write-up to reassure your clients and eliminate the questions they have. If you want someone to do your write-ups a UX copywriter can be beneficial.
Studying and researching the benefits of essential oils can set your clients up for success on a holistic level. They will see an improvement in their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. There is an oil for everything.
